8 of 31. Shift. (after Robert Creeley)

Says he wnts to try
the lemongrass ginger tea.
How is it?
It’s awful, I say,
but good for you,

like how fish oil
is awful
but good for you. He smiles

and orders it,
asks for a side of fish oil
with his meal, (why not)
and winks.

His face is whiskered,
young–hair the color
of unpainted boat.

His soup arrives—
I untie my apron
grab end of
shift cash and rcpts—

Do you need anything else?
The tea is great. Steam rolls
off of everything
in front of him. I set down

a cup of fish oil by his tea,
before winking,
and clocking out.
