12 of 30. My Favorite Roommate

she pushed her peanut butter and jelly into my chin

and what was I supposed to do?

every almost two year old loves to say no

and giggle and wake up wondering

about who made the color pink

and whether or not the banana’s should be

peeled

i was almost too tired to take the cupcake wrapper

out of my hair

but I remembered there was tomorrow

that meeting in the morning

and it’s getting late.  the little girl can

stay on the couch

and the lamp will stay lit

she sings along at the beginning

of her

favorite shows

and only gives kisses when she

wants to

she emptied out my tampons

on the living room floor

while company was over

and climbed onto the sink

to drop my toothbrush

in the toilet

what do you say to an almost two year old

who says your name like a teenager

and walks on couch corners

daring anything to drop her?
